14 Biomarkers · Points-Based Scoring
The Biological Stress Score is a points-based system that evaluates 14 key biomarkers across inflammation, metabolic health, nutrient status, thyroid function, fatty acid balance, and hormonal reserves. Each marker is scored from -2 (optimal/age-supportive) to +4 (high biological stress), then summed to produce a total stress score.
Step 1: Each of the 14 biomarkers receives a score based on whether your value falls into an optimal, average, mildly imbalanced, or highly imbalanced range. Step 2: All marker scores are summed into a Total Biological Stress Score. Step 3: That score is multiplied by 0.6 to produce the Biological Age Adjustment. Step 4: Your Chronological Age plus the Adjustment equals your Estimated Biological Age.
These markers were chosen to cover the most clinically relevant biological domains: inflammation (hsCRP, ESR, homocysteine), metabolic regulation (HbA1C, fasting glucose, fasting insulin), nutrient and fatty acid status (vitamin D, omega-3 index, omega-6/3 ratio), thyroid rhythm (TSH, free T3), iron metabolism (ferritin), and adrenal/hormonal reserves (DHEA-S). Together they paint a multidimensional picture of biological stress.
Scores range from -2 (optimal/age-supportive) to +4 (high biological stress). A score of -1 or -2 means the marker is in an ideal range that supports healthy aging. A score of 0 is neutral. +1 to +2 indicates mild biological stress. +3 to +4 indicates high stress in that biological domain.
Ferritin uses different optimal ranges for females and males because iron requirements and storage patterns differ by sex. DHEA-S also varies significantly by sex, with males typically having higher levels. The calculator applies sex-specific scoring to these two markers.
This is a composite scoring system based on functional medicine ranges and clinical interpretation patterns. It is designed to be educational and directional — highlighting where your biomarkers suggest biological stress or resilience. It is not a validated clinical diagnostic tool and should never replace professional medical advice.
